NID Admission 2017
NID Admission 2017 – National Institute of Design is announce the admission details for B.Des and M.Des programs for the academic session 2017 – 2018. These Admissions for academic session 2017 -2018 will involve a design aptitude test, studio test and personal interview. To pursue a career in design, the institute offers design courses in various domains. Entrance exam for the bachelor and master courses is known as the NID Design Aptitude Test (DAT).
NID Admission 2017
The process of Admission to NID for B.Des. and M.Des. programs consists of three stages:
- Stage 1: Design Aptitude Test (DAT) (Prelims and Main Exam)
- Stage 2: Studio Test
- Stage 3: Personal Interview
NID DAT shall conducted at various test centres in cities across India. Based on the scores obtained in DAT (stage 1), shortlisted candidates for B.Des. and M.Des. will have to appear for the stage 2 and 3 exams of the admissions process, at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Gandhinagar campuses and shortlisted candidates for GDPD (NID Vijayawada) may have to appear for a second round of exams as announced separately by NID Vijayawada.

Admit card is issued by the NID on the official website at www.nid.edu. The Admit card / hall ticket is the essential document to be carried at the time of test & Interviews. It is contain specifics such as candidate’s name, roll number, exam center details.
NID Admission Eligibility Criteria
For B.Des Course: Applications for academic year 2017–18 are open to applicants who have passed or will appear for higher secondary (10+2) qualifying examinations in the academic year 2016–17 from any recognized board of education such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or their equivalent.
For M.Des Course: Applicants must either have appeared for (results awaited), passed, or will appearing for any of the following degree examinations before July 2017:
- Bachelor’s degree in any discipline under the 10+2+4 (or more) system, from any university or institute recognized by law in India.
- Diploma in design under the 10+2+4 system, from any university or institute recognized by law in India. OR
- Applicants must either have appeared for (results awaited) or passed, before July 2016, a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline under the 10+2+3 system from any university or institute recognized by law in India.
NID Admission for Overseas Category Candidates
Foreign citizens—applicants holding citizenship of a country other than the Republic of India—are eligible to apply under the overseas category, provided they fulfill all the eligibility criteria.
Of the seats available for the M.Des. and B.Des. programs, 15% supernumerary seats created for overseas applicants. The actual number of seats available under Overseas category are as follows:
- Master of Design (per specialization) – 02
- Bachelor of Design, NID Ahmedabad – 15
Based on the scores obtained in DAT, separate merit lists shall prepared for each category (General, OBC-NCL, SC, ST & PH). Shortlisted candidates will called for the Studio Test and Personal Interviews.
Based on the Merit list of DAT Prelims, eligible candidates will have to appear for DAT Mains. The number of candidates shortlisted will no less than three times the number of seats available per category in that discipline or program (please refer to Section 3 of this handbook to see the total number of seats available). If the total scores of two or more candidates in the DAT Prelims are the same, they will assigned the same rank.
